Who is Cocos?

Cocos2d is a free software framework. It can be used to build games, apps and other cross platform GUI based interactive programs. What format can I upload my submission on itch.io?

Here are the following options you can choose to upload your game on itch.io.

1. Downloadable - (you only have files to be downloaded)
2. HTML - (you have a ZIP or HTML file that will be played in the browser)
3. Flash - (you have a SWF that will be played in the browser)
4. Java applet - (you have a JAR that will be played in the browser)

Do I have to only use Cocos engine in the development of my game?

No. Although Cocos is one of the event partners, you are free to use any other game engines that you are comfortable with. (eg. Unity, Godot, GameMaker etc.)

Do I only have to use itch.io for my game submission?

Yes. This is to ensure that your submission can be validated effectively and efficiently. Click here to join Protoplay on itch.io.

Can I submit more than 1 entry?

Yes of course! We welcome everyone to submit more than 1 entry if you are able to. This will also increase your chances of winning!

How many teammates am I allowed to have?

There is no limit to how many teammates you can have on your team.

How do I know if my submission is successful?

You will receive a confirmation via the comment section on your itch.io account. Please do give us 48hrs to verify your submission. Once your submission has been verified, you will be notified via the comment section on the status of your submission.

What is the judging criteria?

Judging Criteria:
1. Art - 20% (Does the game have a distinct style to it? Is the art style refreshing?)
2. Innovation - 20% (Does the game showcase creativity or originality of the concept?)
3. Intuitive - 20% (Is the game easy to learn? Are the controls intuitive?)
4. Quality - 20% (Is the usage of IP sensible and/or feasible? Does it feel right for the brand?)
5. Fun - 20% (Does the game make the user want to play continuously? Is the progression well-balanced?)

When is the competition?

The competition period for ProtoPlay is from 1 November 2020, 00:00hrs SGT to 7 December 2020, 23:59hrs SGT.

What if I miss the submission dateline? Can I still submit my entry via email?

The closing date & time of the competition is strictly on 7 December 2020, 23:59hrs SGT. We apologise that we will not be able to take in any submissions after the dateline to be fair to everyone. We highly recommend submitting your entries earlier to prevent any unsuccessful submissions.

How do I receive the cash prize if I am not located in Singapore?

All cash prizes will be transferred to you via a verified and safe bank transfer. (TBA)

What if I am one of the winners and I only want the cash prize, but not the publishing contract?

The prize money and the publishing contract is part of winning the competition. We regret to inform that if you are not agreeable to the publishing contract, the prize will be forfeited and awarded to the next qualifying entry. (TBA from Legal)
